A permanent community funding model built on everyday utility use.
Canmore Legacy exists to create a reliable, ongoing funding source for the Canmore Hospital Foundation using something most households and businesses already do every month: consume electricity and natural gas.
The model is simple: take a portion of revenue that would normally remain as corporate profit and keep it working locally. The Hospital Foundation remains the anchor beneficiary, and as the system grows, community partners can help expand participation while strengthening their own programs and increasing total support for the hospital.
Why Canmore Legacy exists.
Communities depend on institutions that operate on long time horizons--especially healthcare. But most community funding is episodic: campaigns, events, and one-time appeals.
Canmore Legacy was created to add something different: patient, recurring funding that can be planned around. Not fast money. Not excitement. A durable flow that keeps working month after month.
Build structural funding
A permanent model that does not need to be restarted every year.
Keep the hospital as the anchor
The Canmore Hospital Foundation remains the primary beneficiary, with independent governance over how funds are used.
Scale through community networks
Over time, local groups can participate by growing signups under their name--strengthening both their programs and hospital funding.
Canmore Legacy explains the model. Guardian runs the utility operations. The Foundation decides how funds are used.
This separation matters. It keeps the system clear, governed, and verifiable: the operator executes the transfers, the recipient governs the use of funds, and the public can see the outcomes through monthly reporting.
Community participants
Residents and businesses who choose to participate through Guardian Utilities, helping grow a permanent funding stream.
Guardian Utilities
Operates the utility service and performs monthly community transfers according to the published model.
Canmore Hospital Foundation
Receives the funding and allocates it independently based on clinical and governance priorities.
Started in Canmore. Designed to last.
Canmore Legacy was built with a long-term mindset: if a community can create funding that is stable, verifiable, and capable of growing without constant campaigns, it can strengthen essential institutions over decades--not just seasons.
Utility service signup and account management are handled through Guardian Utilities.
